A Victorian five stone amethyst and diamond set hinged bangle of impressive proportions and design. In the Etruscan style, the bangle comprises a shaped front, approx. 1.18 inches maximum width, containing five oval cabochon cut amethysts of slightly mauve to mid purple colour in closed back settings.
The central amethyst measures approx. 0.72 x 0.65 inches and is cut with star shaped setting to the centre into which is set a cushion shaped, old cut diamond amid a halo of six small rose cut diamonds. The calculated diamond weight is 0.33ct in total and colour and clarity have been assessed as H-J and SI respectively.
Two amethysts (one each side) average approx. 0.48 x 0.38 inches and two outer amethysts approx. 0.30 x 0.24 inches. All are set in yellow rub over setting.
No hallmark and testing as approx. 18ct yellow gold. Age assessed as circa 1880s. The front half of the bangle, as well as being set with the gemstones, has also been decorated with Etruscan style applied granular bead and rope twist design decoration.
